José Lever

José Lever is the director of the University of Arizona Mexico Office. Other roles have included Assistant Vice President for US-Mexico Affairs at the University of Arizona; National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT), México, serving as Director of Development and International Cooperation at the Science directorate. He currently coordinates the network of international universities in Mexico with the Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation.

1992-1995, Lever served as Dean of Extension University at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Azcapotzalco (UAM) México, and from 1987-1990 as Director of Traveling Exhibitions at Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico. 

Lever studied his BA in Social Sciences at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), Mexico City, and has Masters Studies in Social Anthropology from Escuela Nacional de Antropogía e Historia.  Additionally, Lever holds a Diploma in Mexican Political System from El Colegio de México.  Lever’s teaching experience includes a professorship at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Escuela Nacional de Artes Pláticas, and at Centro Avanzado de Comunicación (CADEC).

Lever has been active within the community serving as a member of the Advisory Board of Programa de Redes Temáticas, CONACYT; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum; Director General of Lever, Reinhart and Associates, consulting firm on Fund Raising and Development; member of the Review Panel, Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y la Artes; member of the Board at Amigos de Bellas Artes, and at Texas A&M Mexico Center, as well as chair of the International Commission at the Secretary of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Mexico City.
